Poetry always improves with input from fellow poets…

We promote a supportive atmosphere and constructive feedback in our workshops. Poets in our groups have a wide range of experience and styles, which encourages open-mindedness and appreciation of all types of work, with the emphasis on innovative, original and thought-provoking poetry.

How our workshops work

Each member brings ten copies of their poem along. Each poet in turn distributes the copies around the group, and the other participants read the poem from the page. The poet then reads the poem aloud, and there follows about ten minutes' discussion and feedback on what the other poets have enjoyed, alongside suggestions for improvements. The ‘receiving’ poet remains quiet during this time, but then is given a couple of minutes at the end to respond to any points made.

Workshops take place on:
• the second and fourth Thursdays of the month in the City Centre (currently at The Jam Factory)
• the third Wednesday of the month at The Fox and Hounds, Abingdon Road (currently at the Duke of Monmouth, Abingdon Road)
• once a month in North Oxford (this workshop is currently full).

All workshops start at 8 p.m.

Try before you join

You are welcome to attend a workshop before you join, either in the City Centre or South Oxford to get a flavour of how we work. If you are considering joining the City Centre workshop, please phone Laura King on 07748170394 or turn up directly at the Jam Factory. If you are considering joining the South Oxford Workshop, please mail the Secretary, Matt Bright. Please be aware that the South Oxford workshop is currently meeting on request only so that we cannot guarantee that we will be there, if you just turn up.
